Overview

Azure Log Analytics is a cloud-based service provided by Microsoft Azure that enables users to collect, correlate, and analyze large amounts of log and performance data from various sources. This service is designed to help organizations gain insights into their IT infrastructure and applications, detect and troubleshoot issues, and optimize performance. With Log Analytics, users can collect data from Windows and Linux servers, virtual machines, Azure services, and other third-party sources. The collected data can then be analyzed using various tools and techniques, such as query language, dashboards, alerts, and machine learning-based anomaly detection. This makes it easier for organizations to monitor and manage their IT environment, improve operational efficiency, and deliver better services to their customers.

Creating an Azure Log Analytics connection​

Create the connection by using one of the following methods:

• OAuth
• App Registration

Using OAuth​

Creating your connection​

1. In the Blink platform, navigate to the Connections page > Add connection. A New Connection dialog box opens displaying icons of external service providers available.
2. Select the Azure Log Analytics icon. A dialog box with name of the connection and connection methods appears.
3. (Optional) Edit the name of the connection. At a later stage you cannot edit the name.
4. Click Azure to authenticate using OAuth.
5. Sign in using your credentials.

Using App Registration​

To create the connection you need:

• A Client ID
• A Client Secret
• A Tenant ID

Obtaining the credentials​

1. Log into the Azure Portal.

2. Go to the Microsoft Entra ID resource.

   

3. In the left-hand menu, click App registrations.

   

4. Create a new application registration or click on one of your existing applications.

   

5. On the left-hand menu, click API permissions > Add a permission.

   

6. Go to the APIs My Organization Uses section.

   

7. Click on Log Analytics API. You can use the search bar in order to filter the results.

   

8. Choose Application Permissions.

   

9. Enable Data.Read permission and click on Add Permissions.

   

10. Click Grant admin consent for <your tenant> on the API permissions page. Only admins can grant consent.

    

11. Confirm that the added permissions are now verified.

    

12. Navigate to Overview and Copy your client ID and tenant ID.

    

13. Create a new client secret.

    

14. Copy the secret value.

    

Creating your connection​

1. In the Blink platform, navigate to the Connections page > Add connection. A New Connection dialog box opens displaying icons of external service providers available.

2. Select the Azure Log Analytics icon. A dialog box with name of the connection and connection methods appear.

3. (Optional) Edit the name of the connection. At a later stage you cannot edit the name.

4. Select App Registration as the method to create the connection.

5. Fill in the parameters:

   • The Client ID (Application ID)
   • The Client Secret
   • The Tenant ID (Directory ID)

6. (Optional) Click Test Connection to test it.

7. Click Create connection. The new connection appears on the Connections page.
